Week 1 Update
Hello friends and welcome back to the Hill Holliday Bowling League! After a lot of preparation and anticipation, our 12th official season is finally underway.
Before we get into the matches from week 1, I'd like to explain the scoring a bit for the new members of the league.
When you look at the scores tab, you'll see two different types of scores - scratch & net.
"Scratch" Score: Your actual score, with no handicap
"Net" Score: Your score + handicap
Your handicap is determined by subtracting your average from 200. If your average is 115, your handicap is 85. This means that 85 pins will be added to your scratch score. If you bowl a net score of 200 individually, you have bowled your average (which is great!). A two-game team score of 2,000 means that your team has bowled it's average overall. Individually your goal should be to break a net 200 and as a team, you are trying to break a net 1,000 for each game.
All matches are determined by net scores. Scratch scores are essentially just for show. As you know, we bowl two games on a given night. Each game is worth 2 points and the overall total of those 2 games is worth 1 point. A total of 5 points is up for grabs in each match. Handicaps will update based on your averages throughout the season.
Now onto the shout-outs!
Three of our teams got off to a blazing start last week. Tiger Daddies, Bowl Movements, and The Bowling Stones all started the season off with 5 point sweeps! Just how you draw it up. Jude Senese and Lawson Clarke were the big rollers for the Tiger Daddies as they cruised to a 5-point win over Marco Bowlo.
The Bowling Stones may be new to the league, but they wasted no time getting their team off to a winning start thanks to some big-time scores from Sean Westgate and Lucy Woodward. Looks like these two might be going toe to toe all season in the ROTY rankings!
Derek Welch and Glennon Montgomery were the high rollers for the Bowl Movements as they narrowly escaped a 1 pin victory in game one over 9s or Die. But they finished strong in game two to cap off the 5-point sweep.
The Hambone Heroes bounced back after a game 1 loss to Who Do you Think You Are, I Am! The standout performer of the week was none other than Jeff Dyke of the Hambone Heroes! With consistent net scores of 215 and 236, Jeff led the Heroes to victory and earned the week 1 MVP title. Not far behind Jeff was your boy Krishna Ramaswamy who also put on an impressive week 1 display, finishing just 5 pins behind Jeff in the MVP standings.
The defending champs kicked off their season in style by clinching a victory in the first game against the formidable Pinhead Larrys, propelled by an outstanding performance from Mike Grasela, who posted the highest scratch score of the night with a 173. However, the Bandits faced a setback in the second game, allowing the Larrys to capitalize on their slip-up. Leading the charge for the Pinhead Larrys in Game 2 was Sarah Woolfrey, who dominated the lanes with an impressive net score of 217, securing a crucial win for her team.
Congrats to our first turkey club members of 2024! Come see me to grab your stickers.
We're back on the lanes tomorrow night for week 2 (April 3rd). See you then!

Marco!
